the 22 mile road that circles this legendary
island. Drive pass Farepiti, Faanui, and Anau
with their mysterious maraes and wonder at the
American naval guns that serve as reminders of

and Matira Point with their spectacular views.
The road continues and takes you past groves of
coconut palms and tiny villages hugging the

During ancient times, maraes were open-air
